Young poet laureate workshop

Year 4 attended a young poet workshop this half term. The leading poets supported us with understanding the structure of a poem, and then we came up with our own ideas and rhymes. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to be creative and develop their writing skills.
I tried to write a poem
I tried to write a poem,
But tripped upon a rat,
I fell into the river,
But forgot to bring the cat

But got stuck into a game,
I slipped upon a slipper,
Then got whacked by a cane

But fell asleep in class,
I went into the seaside,
But then I saw some glass
I tried to write a poem,
But then I saw a bill,
I had to pay it all,
And then I had a cup to fill
I tried to write a poem,
But my pencil slipped away,
I tried to get it back,
But fell into the bay
