Year 6 Redriff trip to Normandy, France

Our Year 6 pupils had an unforgettable and thought-provoking journey to Normandy, France, where they explored the history and significance of the Second World War.
Throughout the trip, the children visited the famous D Day landing beaches of Sword, Gold and Omaha, gaining a deeper understanding of the bravery and sacrifice shown by Allied soldiers on 6th June 1944. They experienced the immersive 360° Cinema and explored the Musée du Débarquement, bringing the events of the Normandy landings vividly to life.
The pupils also paid their respects at the German Cemetery, the American Cemetery and the British Commonwealth Cemetery and Memorial, taking time to reflect on the lives lost during the war and the importance of remembrance.
The trip included a visit to the German Defence Batteries, where the children learned about the military strategies and fortifications that formed part of the Atlantic Wall.
To conclude the journey, the group visited the spectacular Mont Saint-Michel, discovering its remarkable history and enjoying the breathtaking views of this unique island abbey.
This memorable experience allowed our Year 6 pupils to connect their classroom learning with real historical sites, developing their understanding of the impact of the Second World War and the importance of peace, respect and remembrance.
