Our Mandarin curriculum:
- ensures all pupils receive a high quality education in Modern Foreign Languages
- fosters pupils’ curiosity from EYFS to Year 6
- deepens their understanding of the world
- develops understanding of their own culture and those of others
- encourages respect of diversity
- cultivates a love of learning languages
- develops pupils’ confidence in speaking, listening, writing and reading Mandarin
Redriff’s Mandarin Implementation
Our Mandarin curriculum:
- follows the Confucius Institute at London Southbank University planning
- is adapted for the context of our school
- is taught by specialist teachers from China
- is taught weekly for 45 minute lessons
- is deliberately well sequenced to support children making connections through year groups
- uses a variety of high quality resources
- involves learning through performances such as songs, role play and rhyme
- celebrates Chinese traditions such as Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival

Our children:
- are aware that language has a structure and that this differs from one language to another
- develop their language and communication skills in Mandarin
- have an understanding of Chinese culture
- are prepared for KS3 where they will continue developing their language skills
