SEND & Inclusion

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Inclusion at Redriff

At Redriff, we pride ourselves on our inclusive practice and our provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Our goal for inclusion at Redriff is for every single child to be provided with the relationships and learning opportunities to flourish and thrive. Our multi-disciplinary Inclusion Team work collaboratively with all staff across the school to achieve this.

We value the whole child and take a holistic approach to child development, with an emphasis on oracy, communication, developing independence and social-emotional skills, alongside high expectations for progress in all areas of learning.

We aim to foster curiosity about the world and a love of learning, with children leaving Redriff able to embody our five school values. Children leave us with self-belief, aware of their strengths, needs, and proud of their individuality.

We model genuine inclusive practice and work alongside parents and carers to promote its value to the wider community.

At Redriff we:

  • Value the whole child
  • Empower the family
  • Inspire the community

Value the whole child

We believe all children are unique and entitled to an environment which enables them to thrive.

Through the expertise of our multi-disciplinary Inclusion Team we aim to build an enriching and child centred learning environment. We take an innovative approach to education, looking to be forward thinking and evidence informed, and all our practice is underpinned by our commitment to our children and school values.

We listen to children and believe that they need to have a voice in their education. At Redriff we are committed to providing an outstanding education which supports intellectual, personal and social development. We are an inclusive school – we wish to see all children educated together. We believe this builds compassion in all individuals.

Empower the family

We believe that education is most effective when schools and families work in true partnership on the shared and common goal of children’s fulfilled and independent future. Often children’s longest and most influential educators are their parents or carers. We believe that by learning from them about their child and using our knowledge of education and pedagogy we can empower families to support their child, advocate for their rights and equip children to thrive.

At Redriff all families are different and we celebrate this diversity. We learn from our families about their beliefs and values and welcome all who support our school values into our community.

Inspire the community

Our experience has helped us realise the positive benefits that inclusion brings, enriching and strengthening our community. Where children have additional needs the whole school community is committed to supporting them. All teachers here are teachers of children with SEND. We seek to support all children’s access to the curriculum so that they have the opportunity to progress and achieve success. We also aim to help remove the barriers to success that some children with SEND face in society and help to tackle any prejudice. We believe that by modelling outstanding inclusion we can demonstrate what is possible for all schools to achieve and by providing outreach support to local schools we can inspire positive change. Through celebration of SEND and our expertise in autism we aim to readdress some of the social stigma that still may exist in society and help to champion a fairer and more equal community.
